Fantasy Premier League: Week 16 Recap

wenger

It’s been a tough week for Arsenal (@Arsenal) FC.

After drawing Everton (@Everton) 1-1 at Goodison Park, the Gunners proceeded to concede the top spot in their Champions League (@ChampionsLeague) group by losing to Napoli (@sscnapoli) in what was arguably their worst game of the 2013/14 campaign, and followed that up with a 6-3 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City (@MCFC) – even though it could have easily ended 6-6 if not for the terrible officiating courtesy of Martin Atkinson and his assistants.

We also lost Koscielny to injury, who suffered a nasty deep cut to his knee, and Wilshere (@JackWilshere) is subject to face disciplinary action for making an obscene gesture towards the home supporters at the Etihad.

On top of that, we drew the Tottenham Hotspurs (@SpursOfficial) in the third round of the FA Cup (@FA) and, thanks to the pathetic performance against Napoli, we now face Bayern Munich (@FCBayernEN) in the Champions Final 16.

The lackluster Premier League (@premierleague) performances of late have seen our lead at the top of the table shaved to 2 points with the other big clubs beginning to heat up.

I think we have it in us to defeat Chelsea (@chelseafc) on the 23rd, although it’s a fact that Wenger has yet to claim victory over a Mourinho side throughout the duration of his managerial career.

After silencing the majority of their critics with top performances this season, the Arsenal pessimists and naysayers are vocal once again, insisting that we are beginning to see the “real” AFC.

I’m not sure how one of the most consistent sides in world football always ends up with underdog status but I digress.

The lack of silverware is glaring but our start to the season is no fluke.

The quality is there and I think the squad had run out of gas over the course of this very difficult and congested slate of recent fixtures.

Nevertheless, the belief remains and I would expect the Gunners to finish out the calendar in strong fashion.

Onto the fantasy!

As you can see, I am still paying a dear price for not getting Suárez (@luis16suarez) into my official game squad sooner.

Not having him during his outburst versus Norwich (@NorwichCityFC) killed my chances of competing for the rest of the season in a single gameweek.

I have held Suárez on a deep discount in the Yahoo! format for some time now, but in hopes of making some gains this past week with a differential pick, I foolishly swapped the armband to Rooney (@WayneRooney), who burned me for the second time in recent memory as captain.

Of course, Suárez – wearing the armband in real life for the first time for Liverpool (@LFC) – responded by potting two and setting up three at White Hart Lane.

I was born with the luck of the Irish, what else can I say?

Funnily enough, I made a slight increase in the official game while slipping slightly in Yahoo!

I gotta…

How did you make out in Gameweek 16???
