Fantasy Premier League: Week 3 Player Picks

Third week of the Barclays English Premier League (@premierleague) kicks off with Manchester City (@MCFC) playing home to Hull (@hullcityteam).

The ultra-talented and mega-rich Citizens are once again struggling against a newly promoted club. Having been humiliated by Cardiff (@CardiffCityFC) last week, they are currently drawn at nil at the half, with the Tigers playing the better football so far.

I would expect a return to dominance from Man City in the second half but who knows?

Arsenal (@Arsenal) will host a crucial North London derby match vs. the loathsome Spurs (@SpursOfficial) for the late Sunday game.

Polar opposites in the transfer window, the Lilywhites have been spending like mad while the Gunners have yet to squeeze out a dime on fees.

Should add to the satisfaction of the AFC victory tomorrow.

Thankfully, Pellegrini subbed in Negredo (@_AlvaroNegredo_) for Džeko (@EdDzeko) to open the second half. Risky pick on my behalf that hopefully pays dividends.

Stuck with scumbag RVP (@Persie_Official) again in the Yahoo! game this week for better or worse.

I just have a feeling he’ll light it up at Anfield.

Crate Diggers: DJ Eclipse

You already know.

The best music series on the internet is back. Here we go with another fresh episode of Crate Diggers.

This week, we get an exclusive peek into the home of DJ Eclipse (@ItsDJEclipse) – formerly of Non Phixion, host of the Halftime Show / Rap is Outta Control, and member of the world famous Rock Steady Crew.

Dude estimates his collection currently sits at about 28,000 pieces and it shows.

Every room of this man’s house is literally filled with records.

It is quite a spectacle. It would be a privilege to comb those rooms just to be able to see some of those jewels in person.

Also, it must be said that I agree 100% with his “survival of the fittest” sentiments at the end of the segment.

Another massive installment in the series. Fantastic episode with a genuinely knowledged head.

Take a look at episode no. 30 below:

Fantasy Premier League: Week 2 Recap

Second week of Premier League (@premierleague) action is in the books.

Arsenal (@Arsenal) finished with a convincing 1-3 victory over Fulham (@FulhamFC).

It was a fine result with the Gunners facing heavy scrutiny these days.

Aaron Ramsey (@aaronramsey) – a terribly frustrating player over the past few seasons – is really beginning to hit his stride and was, again, one of the best players on the pitch.

The Shawcross injury seems long behind him now.

Giroud (@_OlivierGiroud_) scored and had another fine performance. Cazorla (@19SCazorla) was creating space to beat the band.

The out of favour Podolski (@Podolski10) also made the most of his first start of the year by bagging a brace.

And is it just me, or is Rosický looking great out there? Definitely one of the unsung regulars who is constantly injecting a bit of much needed pace.

This afternoon, we look to finish off Fenerbahçe (@Fenerbahce) and progress to the group stage of Champions League play, having dominating the first playoff leg in Turkey with an 0-3 result.

If you have yet to figure it out, Gooner talk will usually preface these fantasy posts.

Week Two was generally positive, albeit somewhat lackluster after a great Saturday.

I moved up in both games but the scoreless result between United (@ManUtd) and Chelsea (@chelseafc) caused me to fall a little by Monday evening.

How great was it to see Cardiff (@CardiffCityFC) get the best of City (@MCFC)?

Here’s how I made out:

Total Points: 131

Global: 273,169
Fans of Arsenal: 8,704
Canada: 2,224

Private League: 3 / 16 (12 pts out of 1st)

Total Points: 214

Global: 29,150
Fans of Arsenal: 4,529

Private League I: 2 / 8 (2 pts out of 1st)
Private League II: 3 / 6 (60 pts out of 1st)

Gained a little in the official game and slipped in the Yahoo! version.

I can never seem to get the best out of that traitorous scum van Persie (@Persie_Official) in the fantasy game.

I tend to miss him when he scores big and pick him when he does nothing.

Talk about a failed captain pick.. he gave me a total of 2 points!

I also overspent on Shaw (@Luke_shaw3) thinking the Saints (@SouthamptonFC) would have the clean sheet locked up.

I’ll get ’em next week!

How’d you do in Gameweek 2?

Fantasy Premier League: Week 2 Player Picks

Back a day later with my Barclays English Premier League (@premierleague) fantasy picks for Gameweek 2 of the 2013/14 season.

Arsenal (@Arsenal) is the early match today and they should be ready to kick off at Craven Cottage in less than a half-hour from now.

Two changes to the squad with Jenkinson in for the suspended Koscielny and Wilshere (@JackWilshere) riding the bench to make way for Podolski (@Podolski10).

A big result is needed today! If the Gunners take the result, they will become the first London club to have won 100 derby games.

Let’s go.

Fantasy Premier League: Week 1 Recap

The wait is over and the Barclays English Premier League (@premierleague) is officially back in session for the 2013/14 season.

Despite a 1-nil result, the opening match between Liverpool (@LFC) and Stoke (@stokecity) was a real cracker, with Begović (@asmir1) and Mignolet (@SMignolet) each putting on a clinic in goal.

It was a game to be seen and worked as a class start to the campaign.

Sadly, my Gunners (@Arsenal) suffered their first home opening defeat in 20 years courtesy of Aston Villa (@AVFCOfficial).

Granted, Villa were hacking Arsenal up and down the pitch and the indifference shown from referee Anthony Taylor was horrific.. but that is neither here nor there.

Despite all the panic surrounding the Emirates, I do believe we have quite a competitive squad.

It is just a little thin and recent injuries have exposed that fact.

Regardless of the low-scoring predictions, I expect them to make short work of Fulham (@FulhamFC) in their upcoming fixture.

Perhaps, a hat-trick courtesy of this year’s breakout player of the season (calling it now), Olivier Giroud (@_OlivierGiroud_)?

*     *     *     *     *

So, with that out of the way, the real purpose of this blog entry is to post my weekly fantasy squads, something I have been doing on Twitter for the past few years.

I am not trying to put up player picks prior to deadlines as I am not interested in tipping off the dudes I am competing against directly.

However, this post went up later than I would have liked due to the Chelsea (@chelseafc) / Villa double week.

I am basically using these posts to track my own rankings, as I play both the official game as well as the Yahoo! version.

I am still adjusting to the tweaks made in the latter version but I had a fairly good debut with their new format.

If these posts help people with making their picks the following week, all the better.

If it sparks some discussion, that would be the best. I love geeking out over footy.

Having said that, here are my fantasy squads for Week One:

: 699,344
Fans of Arsenal: 22,664
Canada: 5,889

Private League: 3 / 16

*     *     *     *     *

Global: 24,414
Fans of Arsenal: 3,657

Private League I: 1 / 8
Private League II: 3 / 6

How did the rest of you fare in comparison?

Captaining Hazard (@hazardeden10) didn’t work out the best for me, neither did picking Mata (@juanmata10). Luiz (@DavidLuiz_4) was an outright disaster, not even making the bench for either match. It was a needless risk at almost £16M but I got greedy across the two games.

Even though going heavy on Blues wasn’t as lucrative as I would have hoped, I am still fairly pleased with the first week results.

Excited for a fantastic year of football!

Guelph legend Noah23 (@THENOAH23) has completed his Occult Trill-ogy today by dropping its third and final installment, Blast Master Therion.

Unlike the previous two tapes in this series, this one is being pushed as an official full length featuring brand-new / original production.

Dude came out of retirement with a bang and is back to being his old prolific self.

In my opinion, this particular project features some of his most challenging and experimental works to date.

I highly recommend peeping the trilogy in its entirety.

As usual, Noah has been very generous in making this yet another PWYC release.
